études for piano
Program Notes
Precipitevolissimevolmente is the longest word in the Italian language and ironically means as fast as possible. The first time I heard the word I knew I wanted to use it as the title for a piece. It is the first étude in the set. The second étude is the exact opposite, freddo meaning cold. It is layered just as an iceberg has layers of different ice with a sprinkling of sparkling snow on top.
Commissioned by Philip Saeta for Steven Vanhauwaert’s Piano Spheres concert at Redcat (Walt Disney Concert Hall) June 2, 2015.
