Mnemosyne

Program Notes

"Mnemosyne" was commissioned in 1999 by Motion Ensemble with assistance from the Canada Council for the Arts. Photographer Thaddeus Holownia initially came up with 7 images based on the theme of Memory; inspired by these photographs, author André Alexis wrote a short piece in 7 parts. To tie it together in a performance (which lasts about 17 minutes and uses violin, contrabass, clarinets, percussion and projected text and images) Los-Angeles composer Veronika Krausas composed the score.
